Overview

Bodrum is known as Halicarnassus in ancient Greek. The city was once home to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, also known as the Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Such a trip not only opens the door to another country, but also to another continent. Your first impression is the harbor with its white, amphitheatrically built houses, dozens of sailing boats and yachts, and one of the most impressive castles in the world. After ID or passport control at customs, a tour guide will guide you through the history of the castle and the ancient Greek city of Halicarnassus. A city tour includes an introduction to significant sights such as the windmills and the 13,000-seat ancient Greek amphitheater, an introduction to local cuisine and traditional local products, and if you like shopping, there's a quick stop for that too. The tour lasts about an hour, is in English, free, not compulsory and does not include entry to the archaeological sites. After the tour, you are free to explore the city as you wish until departure time (approximately 15:30). The castle is worth a visit. Don't miss any of the four castle towers, each of which has something unique to offer apart from the magnificent view. If you like walking, a really big bazaar awaits you. You can find everything imaginable there, from all kinds of souvenirs, folk art and handicrafts to clothing and food. Experience intense scents and images at the stands with aromas and spices. You'll find it hard to resist buying something, but be wary of clothing brands as they may seem cheap but may not necessarily be genuine. Many stallholders accept euros and almost everyone speaks Greek or English.
